On World Arthritis Day we’re highlighting the importance of getting the appropriate travel insurance if you are over 65 and suffer from arthritis.

World Arthritis Day was established by Arthritis and Rheumatism International in 1996. It is celebrated every year on 12 October to raise awareness of the issues which affect adults of all ages who live with arthritis and other rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases.

Travelling with arthritis

Travelling with arthritis can be a challenge, as even things other people take for granted, such as carrying luggage, extra walking or sitting for a long period of time can make you feel uncomfortable, but it is not impossible.

You can make things easier by planning ahead and letting your tour operator and airline know about any special requirements well in advance of travel.

The Disabled Travel Network has more information about travelling with arthritis.

Arthritis Travel Insurance

The most important thing to remember when buying travel insurance is to declare that you have arthritis, as well as any other pre-existing medical conditions.

Declaring your arthritis when you buy travel insurance will mean that you are properly covered in the event that you need to cancel your holiday due to illness or require emergency medical treatment whilst you are away.

If you don’t declare that you suffer from arthritis when you buy travel insurance you could find that you are not covered for cancellation or medical treatment for anything that is related directly or indirectly to your arthritis. This obviously puts you at risk of incurring large medical bills if you do require medical treatment whilst you are on holiday.

Travel Insurance Cover for Mobility Aids

For many people who suffer from arthritis mobility aids, such as walking sticks frames and wheelchairs are a vital part of everyday life and something that they couldn’t easily manage without. This means it’s important to make sure that your arthritis travel insurance includes cover for loss, theft or damage to your mobility aids.

Over 65 Travel Insurance has teamed up with Goodtogoinsurance.com to provide over 65’s with arthritis travel insurance because their policies include cover for the loss, theft and damage to your mobility aids and they will also pay for the cost of temporary hire during your trip.
